China refutes Vietnam's objection to the fishing ban

China has reaffirmed that its position on the South China Sea issue is "clear and consistent".

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hong Lei made the remarks, in response to Vietnam's objection to China's two-month fishing moratorium in the sea areas under China's jurisdiction in the South China Sea. This year's fishing ban started from May 16th.

"China's relative authorities impose a fishing moratorium in waters under China's jurisdiction in the South China Sea at summer time every year.

It is a regular administrative measure taken by China to protect living marine resources in the relevant waters, and an act allowing China to fulfil its international obligations and responsibilities," said Hong Lei, Spokesman of Chinese Foreign Ministry.
