Sudirman Cup: Super Dan leads PRC to semi-finals

China met Germany for the second time at the Sudirman Cup in Dongguan, Guangdong province. The host nation crushed the Europeans 5-0 in the group stage and looked to repeat that success in the quarter-finals.

First up for Germany are Michael Fuchs and Birgit Michels in the mixed doubles.

China send on world number one duo Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei who take firm control in the first game. They restrict their opponents only nine points in the opener.

Zhang and Zhao maintain their dominance in the second game winning 21-15 to take the first match of the best of five series in straight sets over Fuchs and Michels.

Then Lin Dan's takes the court for the men's singles, with Super Dan facing Marc Zwiebler. The Chinese world number two has won all four previous meetings with Zwiebler. But the German does cause some trouble in the early stages.

In the long rally, Zwiebler plays patiently before landing a brilliant smash to the corner. But Lin takes control midway through the game and goes on to win it 21-12. The second set sees Lin continue his momentum and cruise to a 21-15 victory. China lead 2-0.

In the men's doubles, China's Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan seal the tie with a straight sets victory over Michael Fuchs and Peter Kaesbauer. China close out the series 3-0 to reach the semi-finals.

"I think it is good so far. I played the first match and Chen Long played the second in the group stage. And today I was out on the court again. Actually, it's really tough waiting for the decision from our coaching team on who will play today in the quarter-finals," said Lin.

South Korea win 3-1 to reach semi-finals

Another quarter-final match saw South Korea taking on Malaysia. First up for Malaysia is former world number one Lee Chong Wei.

The two teams have already met at this tournament with Malaysia coming out on top. Lee faces strong resilience from Son Wan Ho in the men's singles, but he still takes the first set at 21-17 with Son's errors piling up.

With his confidence riding high, the Malaysian star is unstoppable in the second frame as he goes on to take it by a comfortable score of 21-12. Lee wraps up the straight sets victory in 42 minutes giving Malaysia their first point in the tie.

But Lee would see his country fall apart the rest of the way. South Korea, allow no mistakes in the women's singles where Sung Ju Hyun overcomes Tee Jing Yi in straight sets.

World number one pair of Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong then have a firm grip in their men's doubles match. South Korea wrap up the tie by also prevailing in the women's doubles.

3-1 is the final score of the series, which means the Koreans reach the last four. Lee and Malaysia are heading home.
