At least 6 gunmen, 3 policemen killed in gun battles in Chechnya

At least six gunmen and three police officers were killed Wednesday night after gun battles broke out in the capital of Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Chechnya.

Gunmen traveling in several cars attacked a police checkpoint and then occupied a publishing house, which then went up in flames.

The attack came just before Russian president Vladimir Putin was due to deliver his annual state of the nation address in Moscow.
