GOLF

DON RIDDELL: Now golf and it's the first round of the ATNT classic on the PGA till today. While much of the focus will inevitably be on Tiger Woods, there will be much interest in Zach Johnson, the reigning Masters champion won this event in 2004 and was a runner up last year and he's been chatting with our Patrick Snell.

PATRICK SNELL: Thanks very much, I'm with Zach Johnson, the 2007 Master's champion. That sounds pretty good, doesn't it? Tell us how it feels like, life is a major winner.

ZACH JOHNSON: Ah, it feels good, I mean it's still very severe, ah still very much hard to believe at times but ah, you know, it's a nice thing and you know, I owe a lot of, got to pay my respects due and I've got a lot of fortunate ah, people around to support me and as a result that's why I won.

PATRICK SNELL: Had a few weeks to take stock and settle in. When you look back at that final lament this afternoon at Augusta, are you surprised with how well you coped under pressure?

ZACH JOHNSON: Ah, yes and no. I mean I feel like I was, you know, getting prepared for those situations. I feel like the Ryder Cup certainly helps in that respect, in playing in that sort of arena and having some mild successes during that time and also the fact that, you know, I worked in the off season very hard for that moment and you know, I haven't realized that makes that much more special.

PATRICK SNELL: You won at this even before. What is it about the great state of Georgia that brings out the best in you?

ZACH JOHNSON: I don't know, ah maybe the food, probably the people, um, I don't know, that's a great question. I think a lot of it is probably with the type of grass and the greens they're using pretty quick and smooth which I really enjoy and constantly I grew up on.

PATRICK SNELL: Now this braces expectations ah, we have the British Open looming, the U.S. Open as well. Um, do you expect more from yourself now because you don't have the best of records, do you? I'm thinking in Britain as well.

ZACH JOHNSON: Right, you're absolutely right, you know I haven't had much success over there yet. Um, do I expect more? Possibly, I don't know, I feel like my game's going on the upward and as a result you know, um you know, I feel like I can pretend. I don't strictly care for expectations more or less, just because I think if you start expecting things, you're more or less looking to the future and I'm a guy that pretty much like to stick to the present and let things fall where they fall and as a result I think that's why I'm standing here.

PATRICK SNELL: Okay, Zach, many thanks for your time and thanks for talking to us. I'll hand it back to the studios.
