Should College Students Have A Dorm Room To Themselves?

A Chengdu-based newspaper, West China Daily, last week reported on a female student who rented an entire dorm room in a college in Chengdu, the capital of Southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The girl paid four times the rent, and then turned the 4 people dorm into her personal luxurious living space with newly-bought furniture and other household appliances.

An article in the Shanghai-based 'Xinmin Evening News' says this issue has sparked hot debate.

The article says renting a single dorm room is not permitted in public colleges in China, according to the rules of the ministry of education.

It points out that if a student never shares a room with others, he or she may lack team spirit and encounter difficulties in dealing with people in the future.

The newspaper adds that although more people think the college students should not have the right to live alone by paying more, still some believe it should not be a big deal for students to live more comfortably if colleges do have unwanted rooms and people are willing and able to pay the huge rent.
